The Thompson Junior Soccer Association has some new names and faces on its roster this year.

During the Setting Lake Wayside Park 15th annual fish derby, which took place on July 25 to 26 from Wayside Park in Wabowden, there were three categories contestants could take part in, with a chance at winning a cash prize for each category.

The Thompson Golf Club's senior open took place on Aug. 2. For the men's division 50 to 54 years, Earl Timmons had the lowest score, followed by Wayne Landers and Gerald Osbourne.

Kenton Fayant was the overall winner of the Thompson Golf Club's 2009 junior open, played July 26. Fayant also took the title in the boys 16-and-up division.

The Thompson Ravens earned a bronze medal at the peewee lacrosse provincials July 3-5 in Sagkeeng, losing 6-3 to the Winnipeg Sidewinders in the semifinal match-up.

The Thompson triathlon is just over a month away, and will offer individual and team competitions in three events, as well as the Try-a-Tri, open to racers 12 and older who are new to the sport of triathlon.

Keewatin Tribal Council scored seven runs in the fifth inning of the final against the War Lake 286 Sluggers to win 13-4 in a national qualifier slo-pitch tournament July 26 in Thompson.

Tanya Burnside was the winner of the 36th-annual ladies open golf tournament played July 4 at the Thompson Golf Club, shooting a 72 in the one-round event to take top spot in the championship flight, beating runner-up Marlene Dram by nine strokes.

Thompson-born Keith McCambridge, whose family later moved south to St. Andrew's, Man., has been named assistant coach by the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.
