R.D. Parker Collegiate’s senior girls’ basketball team suffered their first loss of the season in the final of the South Comes North basketball tournament they hosted in Thompson Feb. 14-15.

The participants may be small – mostly nine or 10 years old – but when it comes to organizing the Munn Cup, the name of the game is go big or go home.

R.D. Parker Collegiate’s girls’ curling team skipped by Brooke Graham swept their way to provincials with back-to-back victories over the Hapnot Collegiate Institute team at the Zone 11 championships in Thompson Feb. 7-8.

When Shayna Moore volunteered to be her team’s goaltender as a first-year novice player in Thompson, she couldn’t have imagined where the decision would lead her. “No one wanted to be goalie,” Moore, 18, a Pimicikamak Cree Nation member, recalls.

For linebacker Thomas Miles, a native Winnipegger, having the chance to be a part of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers team that captured the Grey Cup after 28 seasons of frustration was “such an honour.” Miles, who was in Thompson Feb.
