U15 King Miners ground Bombers and tame Huskies for Don MacLean tournament title

Hosts go undefeated to claim championship during first minor hockey tournament in Thompson since March 2020.

This past weekend saw some long-awaited hockey return to the old C.A. Nesbitt Arena with the 30th-annual U15 Don MacLean Memorial Tournament as the Thompson King Miners hosted The Pas Huskies and the Flin Flon Bombers.  

The King Miners defeated the Bombers and Huskies 9-1 and 10-1 in the round robin to qualify for the championship game. The Sunday final required some grit and determination as the King Miners fought off some early penalty problems in a heated affair between against The Pas. The Miners went on to defeat the Huskies 9-1 for the championship with timely scoring and solid goaltending.

The team would like to thank all the sponsors and volunteers who took part this past weekend.  The King Miners travel to Dauphin, Dec. 10-12 for the U15 Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy Classic.
