There’s a tendency among insufferable music snobs, myself often included, to roundly dismiss the yearly slew of summer hits as a monotonous wall of mindless party bangers.

The next instalment of the Home Routes Concert will feature the finely tuned finger-style of Andy Cohen, a blues, folk and roots guitarist from the deep south of Memphis, Tennessee.

The Royal Manitoba Theatre Society is back on it’s 2016 regional tour, performing a madcap re-telling of the quintessential Sherklock Holmes tale, The Hound of the Baskervilles .

The Home Routes tour is returning to Thompson on Feb. 9, featuring the soulful sounds of Coco Love Alcorn, daughter of Canadian jazz icon John Alcorn.

Nelson Little was travelling Northern Manitoba in support of his latest album, Ain’t Afraid of the Truth released on Oct. 22. Little came in to the Nickel Belt News office to talk roots, community-building and music.

Thompson will be blessed with three concerts Nov. 21-22, with performances from Scott Cook, Tom Jackson, and the Jesse Peters Trio.

She was born across the Atlantic but musician October Browne, who plays a Home Routes concert in Thompson Oct. 24, has spent a lot of time in Canada and seen more of it than many who were born here thanks to her job as a travelling musician.

Home Routes concerts may have stopped for the season, but there’s another home-based concert coming to town. Alan Gerber, who has been involved in music since age 15 will be stopping in Thompson during his independent western tour.

Audiences will have to a chance to appreciate some homegrown dramatic talent this week and next at R.D.
