Twenty-five Manitobans tested positive for COVID-19 Aug. 25, most of them in the Prairie Mountain, southern and Winnipeg health regions.

Nine new cases were recorded in Winnipeg, eight in the Prairie Mountain health region and seven in the southern health region. The other new case was in the Interlake-Eastman health region.

The Northern Regional Health Authority (NRHA) did not have any new cases for the second day in a row. One resident of the Gillan-Fox Lake health district tested positive for COVID-19 April 23 after being in close contact with a visitor from the Prairie Mountain health region, who had been a close contact of a previously known case and subsequently tested positive for the virus. That was the first positive test for the novel coronavirus north of Manitoba’s 53rd parallel since early April and fourth case in the region since the pandemic began.

Manitoba has now had 1,043 cases of COVID-19 since the first positive test in mid-March. There are currently eight people in hospital due to the virus, one of whom is in intensive care. There are 408 active cases and 622 people who are considered recovered. Thirteen Manitobans have died as a result of COVID-19.

A total of 1,206 COVID-19 tests were completed Aug. 25, bringing the total number of Manitobans tested so far to 129,409.
