This year, Tim Hortons Camp Day fell on June 6 and the Thompson branch of this coffee franchise did their part by donating all of the money from coffee sales in that 24-hour period towards the Tim Hortons Children’s Foundation.
After deputy mayor Colleen Smook kicked off festivities around 8 a.m. with a ribbon cutting, the staff organized a series of additional fundraising activities throughout the day, including a garage sale, a ring toss and “pie in the face” booth.
Members of Thompson Fire & Emergency Services even dropped by at one point to help collect money by cleaning the windows of motorists waiting in the Tim Hortons drive-thru.
According to manager Kathy Cavanaugh, the restaurant raised a grand total of $5,978, surpassing last year's campaign by $1,326.
Since its inception in 1974, the Tim Hortons Children’s Foundation has helped send hundreds of thousands of kids to camp through Camp Day.
In a letter to the Thompson Citizen, Cavanaugh wrote that last year’s national campaign raised $9.7 million and will allow over 14,000 children to attend one of the company’s six foundation camps this year, including its newest location inside Whiteshell Provincial Park.
If you would like to support this cause throughout the rest of the year, you can make a donation through the Tim Hortons Children’s Foundation official website.
