During their Jan. 29 meeting, the board of trustees for the School District of Mystery Lake (SDML) revisited the idea of setting up a social media presence to keep the public better informed of their activities.

Trustee Lindsay Anderson recommended that the board should consider developing an official social media strategy through their public relations committee, a motion that was unanimously approved by her colleagues.

This move represents a step forward from the previous iteration of the school board, which remained indecisive about establishing a SDML Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram account throughout their four-year term.

Even though former board chairperson Rob Pellizzaro did set up a Twitter account for the school district during his tenure, this social media presence eventually disappeared after he decided not to run in the 2014 municipal election.

Currently, the SDML doesn’t support or cultivate any kind of social media account, with their website being the only method of distributing important district information online.

While Anderson didn’t present any idea of what this social media strategy would look like on Tuesday, she told the Thompson Citizen that they could divulge additional details about this ongoing project during their next meeting on Feb. 12.

Secretary-treasurer Kelly Knott also reminded everyone that the 2019-20 public budget meeting will take place Feb. 28 at the school district office at 408 Thompson Drive North beginning at 7 p.m.
