There have now been 60 total cases of the virus in Northern Manitoba since the pandemic began in March, with the vast majority having occurred recently. Forty-six of the cases are considered active right now, but that may not be an accurate reflection of the total number of active infections as public health officials have not been able to get in touch with all people who tested positive but are no longer considered infectious.

Thompson has the highest number of active cases in the north right now, with 10, while Pimicikamak/Cross Lake with six. Information online says there are nine active cases in the Shamattawa/York Factory /Tataskweyak/Split Lake region but York Factory First Nation Chief Leroy Constant said two weeks ago that a family in York Landing that contracted the virus after one member went to Winnipeg of a medical appointment were considered recovered.

One-fifth of the COVID-19 cases in Northern Manitoba (12) have been among people aged 30 to 39, while there have been nine cases among people aged 20-29 and among those aged 50-59. Eight people aged nine and under have contracted the virus, while there have been seven cases in people aged 10 to 19, seven in people aged 40 to 49 and seven in people aged 60-69. One case was a person between 70 and 79 years old.

Province-wide, 135 new cases were reported Oct. 21, 102 of them in Winnipeg. There were also 17 new cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region and 12 in the southern health region. A 43rd person has died from the virus. He was a man in his 80s in Winnipeg and his case was linked to an outbreak at Parkview Place.
