Members of Thompson’s Indian community celebrated Navratri, a 10-day, nine-night autumn festival that began Sept. 29 this year, with three days of celebrations, culminating in a final night of dining, dancing and candlelight prayers at the Thompson Regional Community Centre Oct. 7. Navratri, a Sanskrit word meaning nine nights, is a festival that signifies a battle and a victory of good over evil. Thompson’s celebration included free food and refreshments for around 400 to 500 people, including non-Indian participants, in the gym full of vibrant colours, dancing, enthusiasm, and excitement.
