As of Aug. 1, the non-profit organization Men Are Part of the Solution (MAPS) officially set up shop at 117 Commercial Place, the building that used to house Thompson’s Sears outlet store before it shut down.

MAPS program director and therapist Michele Nichol-Sawh says they decided to make this change because their previous location, on the second floor of the CHTM building, posed some accessibility issues for clients.

Even though they still need to purchase some furniture and unpack a few boxes, Nichol-Sawh said they are open for business at this new location.

As stated on their website, MAPS aims to serve as a deterrent to domestic violence in the Thompson area by offering counselling services and transitional housing for men.

Nichol-Sawh added that MAPS will be throwing a more formal introduction to this new office during their next annual general meeting, which is supposed to take place sometime in the fall.
