Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy has been appointed as the new Commanding Officer of the Manitoba RCMP. Born in Rossburn, Man., and raised in The Pas, McMurchy brings with him 34 years of policing experience.

Having joined the force in 1990, McMurchy was initially posted in Saskatchewan before returning to Manitoba in 2005, where he served as the Detachment Commander in Gilliam. Over the years, he has held various roles, including working in Thompson in 2008 and serving as the Manitoba North District Office Advisory and CEO. In 2014, he was commissioned to the rank of inspector and continued to serve in Thompson as the District Operations Officer.

In his new role as Commanding Officer for the Manitoba RCMP, based in Winnipeg, McMurchy will oversee a vast area of the province, stretching from the outskirts of Winnipeg to Churchill and Tadoule Lake. His primary focus is on addressing violent crime and ensuring the safety and security of Manitobans.

When asked about his future goals for the region, McMurchy emphasized the importance of supporting and leading front line officers to ensure they have the necessary equipment and resources to keep the community safe. He also expressed his commitment to working collaboratively with communities to reduce the levels of violent crime.

Prior to his promotion, McMurchy served as the Officer in charge of Criminal Operations, overseeing all criminal operations across Manitoba within the RCMP jurisdiction. In his new role, he aims to provide consistent leadership, emphasizing the importance of collaboration at all levels to address crime in high-risk areas such as Thompson.

“I recognize the high crime locations such as Thompson and we’re going to take a deep look at it and work with my management team and some of our agents here in order to address the crime, specifically in the Thompson area”

McMurchy's deep connection to Manitoba and his extensive experience in various policing roles position him well to lead the Manitoba RCMP in its efforts to ensure the safety and security of the province's communities.
