Manitoba reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 and the province’s 12th death due to the virus Aug. 19.

A man in his 60s in the southern health region who was hospitalized in intensive care has died of COVID-19. His case was connected to a known cluster of infections.

Thirteen of the cases announced Wednesday were in the Prairie Mountain health region, while one each were in the Winnipeg and southern health regions.

The new cases bring the total number of COVID-19 cases in Manitoba since the pandemic began to 763. Of those, 528 are considered recovered and 223 are active. There are six people currently in hospital due to the virus, two of them in intensive care.

As of Aug. 18, when 1,376 coronavirus tests were completed, 118,364 Manitobans have been tested for the virus. Only people with cold and flu symptoms such as a cough, runny nose and fever are currently recommended to be tested.

Manitoba Public Health recommends staying home when sick, washing or sanitizing hands often, covering coughs and physically distancing yourself from people from outside your household as ways to limit possible exposure to the virus. Wearing a mask when unable to physically distance yourself from other people is also recommended.
