This year, May 31 marked Tim Hortons Camp Day, where the proceeds generated from every single cup of coffee sold during that 24-hour period is used to send underprivileged kids to camp.

The Thompson branch of this multinational restaurant chain is no stranger to this campaign and managed to raise $4,652 through the sales of coffee and specialty Camp Day bracelets.

This amount represents a step down from last year’s fundraiser, which raised over $7,000. However, it marks an upgrade from the $3,100 that was generated during the 2015 campaign.

In addition to raising money through their everyday operations, the staff of the Thompson Tim Hortons also decided to organize a couple of activities on the restaurant’s premises to give local kids a taste of what they could expect with at camp. The staff provided local families with hula-hoops, Frisbees, crafts, and team member Kevin McKay even broke out a fiddle at one point to serenade passers-by.

According to their corporate website, Tim Hortons raised $12.6 million during last year’s campaign and they’ve generated more than $162 million over the past 25 years to help lower income families send their kids to camp.

“Camp is the catalyst for change for a lot of these kids,” said David Newnham, president and executive director of the Tim Hortons Children’s Foundation, in a press release. “By nurturing youth in a supportive environment, we’re helping to shape the next generation.”
