Thompson residents looking to stay active this fall and upcoming winter got a preview of what the community has to offer during the 27th-annual Health and Leisure Mart Sept. 6-7 at the Gordon Beard Arena.

This year’s event featured 25 different businesses, clubs and organizations.

For northern youth looking to stay fit, groups like the Junior Bison Basketball Club, Thompson Wrestling Club and Diamond Dance Academy provided a wide spectrum of programming for the upcoming school year.

First-time leisure mart exhibitor Andrée Matkowski even had something available for mothers who can’t get to the gym through the Mommy and Baby Fitness program.

“They can bring their kids and actually have a workout,” she said. “Instead of weights they use their baby.”

Pride North of 55 was there highlighting their upcoming Pride Week activities, which include a flag-raising at City Hall Sept. 20, followed by a march and rally at the Thompson Regional Community Centre  and a dance party at St. Lawrence Hall, both on Sept. 21.

“Pride is for everyone in Thompson,” said Pride North of 55 vice-chair Freddie Routhier. “It’s not about whether or not you are a part of our community, just show your support.”

The City of Thompson's table had members the pool planning committee surveying the public about what should be done regarding the Norplex Pool, which was shut down permanently in February.
