Nine members of the Thompson Professional Firefighters Association, Local 2200, which is a local of the Washington, D.C.-based International Association of Fire Fighters, donned pink T-shirts Oct. 6 at the fire hall to kick-off awareness of their fundraising efforts throughout October for breast cancer research. The City of Thompson, as their employer, has also partnered with the union on the initiative. Capt. Travis Mirus, secretary for Local 2200, says firefighters in Winnipeg. Brandon and Portage la Prairie are also participating in the fundraising challenge this month. You can arrange to buy a pink T-shirt to support the firefighters efforts for $20 by calling the fire hall during dayshift in October at 677-7916.
