A Feb. 7 fire on Pickerel Crescent in Thompson’s Westwood neighbourhood caused minor damage to a house, police say, but all residents were able to get out with no injuries.

RCMP and Thompson Fire & Emergency Services responded to the fire, which was reported around 1:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is being investigated but it is not considered to be suspicious in nature.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started with the goal of raising $2,000 for Laverne Smith and her family, who lived in the home. It had raised about half of its goal by 11 a.m. Feb. 10.

“I am feeling better today, relieved and thankful, thankful no one was injured,” Smith said in a Facebook post the day after the fire. “We will get back on our feet one day at a time. All that matters right now is me and my family are OK.”
