A dog died from injuries inflicted when three men forcibly invaded a home in Thompson's Juniper area around 1 p.m. March 4, RCMP say.

Three men are wanted by Thompson RCMP following a March 4 home invasion in the Juniper area that resulted in the death of one of the residents’ dogs.

The first suspect was described as a young male, approximately six feet tall and 200 pounds, wearing a grey tuque with a white stripe, a grey jacket and winter boots. The other two were described only as males dressed in dark clothing. Witnesses said all three were Indigenous in appearance and that one of the suspects had a tattoo of a teardrop on his face.

Two adults and a child were in their Ash Street home around 1 p.m. Monday when the men knocked on the door and asked to be let in. The homeowner refused but they forced their way inside. The occupants escaped out the back door and called police. The suspects remained in the home for a short time before fleeing the area prior to RCMP arriving.

One of the occupants’ dogs was found injured in the backyard and later died of injuries believed to have been inflicted by the suspects.

One of the home’s occupants said on Facebook that the dog, a Great Dane puppy, was hacked with a machete.

Thompson RCMP and the Forensic Identification Unit continue to investigate and anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Thompson RCMP at 204-677-6909, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or to submit a secure tip online at wwww.manitobcrimestoppers.com.
