The July 20 Pedals for Paws fundraiser generated $5,135 for Northern Manitoba Paws in Need, a Thompson-based animal rescue that was sheltering 19 dogs and 17 cats as of the end of June, says Thompson Veterinary Clinic owner Jennifer Nyhof, one of the event’s organizers. Participants biked out to Mid Lake, and in some cases back, after starting out from the North Centre Mall parking lot at the corner of Mystery Lake Road and Station Road at 10 a.m.

Nyhof said 17 riders completed the one-way trip (30 kilometres) while five participants managed to complete the return trip (60 kilometres).

Outside of thanking the volunteers, donors and sponsors for making this inaugural fundraiser happen, Nyhof also said they are going to turn Pedal for Paws into an annual event.
