But first, let me take a #shelfie

Do you know how easy it is to win a $50 Amazon gift card? For the month of October, it’s as easy as taking a selfie! Or more specifically, a shelfie! A shelfie is a selfie taken in front of a bookshelf.

Do you know how easy it is to win a $50 Amazon gift card? For the month of October, it’s as easy as taking a selfie! Or more specifically, a shelfie! A shelfie is a selfie taken in front of a bookshelf. For Canadian Library Month, the Thompson Public Library is running a shelfie contest on our Instagram (@thompsonlibrary) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Library.Thompson), and we are inviting anyone with social media to participate!

The rules for this contest are simple: take your shelfie in front of any bookshelf (bonus points if you take it at the library!), follow and tag the library on Instagram with the hashtag #TPLshelfie or post it to our Facebook wall! The most creative shelfie wins! So get those ideas flowing! The staff of the library will be picking the winner, so we are excited to see what participants come up with! Follow the hashtag #TPLshelfie on Instagram to see the great shelfie entries.

Use those selfie skills to win Amazon gift cards! The winner gets a $50 Amazon gift card and the runner up gets a $25 gift card, good for online purchases of anything Amazon sells! You can buy books, movies, electronics, music and more! The contest runs from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31 and we will announce the winners on Nov. 6.

As part of Canadian Library Month, the Thompson Public Library and YWCA Steps to Success are teaming up to present our first annual Thompson Reads. We will be discussing the book Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden on Oct.10 at 3 p.m. Join us for discussion and refreshments.

As usual, we have tons of events going on for Canadian Library Month such as free children’s movies, extra story times, book discussions, a Halloween party on Oct. 21 and Halloween-themed parent and tot yoga on Oct. 30! Check out our Facebook page for a full calendar of events!  For more information, call the library at (204) 677-3717 or visit us in person.

Amanda Sanders is a library assistant at the Thompson Public Library.
