Thompson resident Ward Nevistiuk is the most recent winner of the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation’s (NCN) Chase the Ace fundraiser at the Mystery Lake Hotel, walking away Aug. 4 with a prize of $33,673.80.

Half the money raised by the Trapper’s Tavern Chase the Ace, which runs Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., goes to NCN’s parks and recreation department, says the First Nation’s recreation superintendent Lou Moodie

“If we reach capacity, or if you don’t want to come into the bar, you can listen to it on the radio and you’ve got 10 minutes to come in and show your ticket,” he said. “So there’s actually a lot of excitement. People getting together here, mingling, no matter who you are. People are just having fun.”
