Meet the Northstars

Lavery Melsted from Thompson and Justin Issakiark from Rankin Inlet, Nunavut are the featured Norman Northstars players this week as the team prepares to take on the Yellowhead Chiefs at home on Saturday and Sunday.

The Norman Northstars’ defence corps includes a player for whom the C.A. Nesbitt Arena is familiar surroundings and another who hails from Nunavut.

Lavery Melsted from Thompson is sixth in team scoring so far this year for the Northstars who have three wins, 10 losses and two overtime losses for eight points and sit 11th in the 13-team Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League. The 5’9”, 170 pound blueliner has eight assists in 15 games played this season and his jersey sponsor is A&B Builders.

Justin Issakiark hails from Rankin Inlet and has appeared in nine games this season, registering no goals, no assists and no penalty minutes. Arctic Beverages is the uniform sponsor for the 5’8”, 156 pound defender.

The Northstars, who won their third game of the season Oct. 30, are at home Nov. 6-7 to take on the Yellowhead Chiefs at the Thompson Regional Community Centre.
