The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League named Norman Northstars defenceman Cheechoo Lathlin as its player of the week Oct. 12 after he scored in three consecutive games, two of which were multi-point efforts.

Lathlin, 17, had a goal and two assists in his first game of the season against the Winnipeg Bruins Oct. 8, setting up Ian Snooks’s overtime winner to give the Northstars a 5-4 decision for their first win of the season after opening his team’s scoring with a power play tally in the second period and later assisting on another man-advantage goal. He also scored once in a 6-2 loss to the Bruins on Saturday and scored once and added two helpers in a 6-4 loss to the Eastman Selects Oct. 10.

Now in his third year with the Northstars, the 6-foot, 190-pound blueliner from Opaskwayak Cree Nation has already tied his season-best of three goals, which he scored over 46 games in 2019-20 and seven games in 2020-21. He already has more points than he did last season and is a third of the way to his rookie season total of 20 points.
