All was calm at R.D. Parker Collegiate after the end of the school day Wednesday.

RCMP were present at R.D. Parker Collegiate Wednesday, but it was determined that there was no need to send students home after a bomb threat was discovered on a washroom wall.

A letter sent home with students, signed by R.D. Parker principal Ryan Land, stated that "some writing in one of the washrooms at R.D. Parker has caused some concern."

The letter also contained a message from Thompson RCMP Acting Cpl. Chad Yerex, who stated that "the credibility and validity of the threat cannot be confirmed, though it is questionable in nature." Though RCMP were present at the school, consultation between the school, the RCMP, and the School District of Mystery Lake determined that there was no need to send students home, with classes continuing as normal.

Land also stated that "steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the staff and students at R.D. Parker," and that "there was no risk to students or staff."

According to new school district superintendent Beverly Hammond, the threat consisted of the words "bom [sic] threat this isn't a threat but it's a promise" written on a washroom wall. "There's no date, there's no time," she noted.

"This is not an unusual event in high schools," Hammond said. "Students do things like this throughout the year." Her comments were echoed by Land, who also noted that "we're really working to try and stamp this sort of thing out."

Hammond said that the threat was brought to the attention of R.D. Parker staff early Wednesday afternoon.

"We would be willing to dismiss students if there was any degree of credibility," Land said.

RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
