Educator and author Ronald Morrish will be in town tonight, brought in by the Thompson Teachers Association for a parent information seminar.

The theme of Morrish's presentation is "Secrets of Discipline for Parents and Teachers: 12 Keys for Raising Responsible Children," which is also the name of the first of his three books, published in 1997.

Morrish says his presentation will provide parents with "many practical strategies for teaching children to be responsible and co-operative. You will learn how to discipline without all the deal-making, arguments, and confrontations."

After 26 years as a teacher with the District School Board of Niagara in St. Catharines, Ont., including 16 years as the board's behavioural specialist, Morrish turned to independent consulting in 1997. He has spoken to teachers, parent groups, and conferences around the world.

Morrish's other books include "With All Due Respect," which looks at how to improve personal discipline schools and build discipline in schools as a team, and, most recently, "Flip Tips," a 2003 book of tips and hints on effective discipline, with material drawn from his previous books and presentations.

The presentation will take place in the R.D. Parker Collegiate library from 7 to 9 p.m.
