Three people were transported to Winnipeg Health Science Centre after an early-morning crash south of Thompson on March 14, RCMP say.

According to Thompson RCMP Const. Mike Eady, RCMP along with Thompson Fire and Emergency Services were called to the site of the crash, two miles south of Thompson on Highway 6 near the Birchtree Mine, at 5:45 a.m. that morning.

They found a head-on collision between a northbound 2010 Ford Focus and a southbound 1995 GMC pickup truck. Eady says that both vehicles received "extensive damage" and that both drivers had to be extracted with the Jaws of Life.

Sam Dalton, Danny Janes, and David Waye - the two drivers and a passenger in the truck - were taken to the Winnipeg Health Science Centre in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

Dalton is believed to be in critical but stable condition, with a fractured pelvis, sternum clavicle, bruised heart and an injury to his liver. He was scheduled for a late-week surgery.

Janes, 35, had a badly bruised hip and underwent surgery Wednesday.

RCMP say that all three were wearing seatbelts and that alcohol was not a factor in the incident. The investigation continues.
