Thompson RCMP called off a dangerous highway pursuit on Nov. 14 following a white Doge pickup truck that had been stolen from Wabowden.

The RCMP were told to be on the look out for the vehicle around 9 p.m. that night. A half hour later, officers saw the vehicle travelling within the City of Thompson and tried to stop it, to no avail. A pursuit ensued but police had to discontinue it because of the dangerous driving of the driver in the truck.

Police didn't stop there, though, and continued on with patrols south of Thompson on Highway 6. The suspect vehicle was seen driving dangerously near Paint Lake Provincial Park. RCMP employed the use of a spike belt to immobilize the vehicle but it continued to operate on flat tires. Detachment members then blocked the suspect vehicle with a police car, resulting in a minor collision, which no one was hurt in. After this the vehicle came to a stop and the driver, 24-year-old Troy Jack McIvor of Wabowden, was apprehended without further incident.

At the time of his arrest, McIvor was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation. He has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and possession of stole property, both exceeding $5,000 as well as impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to stop for police. He was remanded in custody and appeared in Thompson provincial court on Nov. 16, after which he remained in custody.
