TFES anoints new junior fire chief to close out 2018

Grade 4 student Carson Stoltz received an early Christmas present Dec. 19 when he became the head of Thompson Fire & Emergency Services (TFES) for a day.

After getting picked up from his morning class at Burntwood School, Stoltz was brought to the fire hall where he got to hang out with the TFES crew and check out some firefighting equipment.

Stoltz also met with Mayor Colleen Smook and other members of the city government in person.

In exchange for shouldering this big responsibility, Stoltz received a variety of gifts from his new crewmates, including a season-long public skating pass, a six-month pool pass, a coupon for the Virtual Grid and a bike from Canadian Tire.

Deputy fire chief Steve Molloy later told the Thompson Citizen that TFES selected Stoltz for this position after he sketched a winning home evacuation plan for their annual elementary school fire safety contest.
