Teekinakan Day Care recently received a much-needed donation from 100 Women Who Care Thompson that will enable it to redo some of its floors.
Day care director Anne-Marie Bosters says the $5,700 cash infusion is welcome because Teekinakan would have difficulty raising that kind of money on its own.
"The only option to raise your revenues is through fundraisers,” she said. “We already do four fundraisers a year.”
Linoleum areas inside the building on Station Road in Eastwood will be recovered.
“We’d like to do the carpet eventually, but we have no money,” Bosters said.
The importance of childcare is what motivated members of 100 Women Who Care to select Teekinakan as their latest recipient and Bosters was over the moon when she realized her pitch had been successful.
“I was almost speechless,” she said. "I just couldn’t believe it. I went, ‘Oh my goodness, this is awesome!’”
Since March 2016, 100 Women Thompson, a group of about 60 women at present who contribute $100 per individual or group four times a year to a local organization and vote on the winning submission, has handed out donations to a variety of recipients.
