Surface ore haulage truck damages propane line

A surface ore haulage truck at Vale Inco collided with a trestle resulting in damage to the tailings line as well as a 12-inch propane line around 8 p.m.

A surface ore haulage truck at Vale Inco collided with a trestle resulting in damage to the tailings line as well as a 12-inch propane line around 8 p.m. Friday night, says David Markham, manager of corporate affairs for the company's Manitoba Operations.

Markham issued an "information update" on the incident by e-mail at 3:41 p.m. Saturday. He says the "incident did not result in any adverse environmental effects; the tailings line was successfully flushed and drained and personnel from Manitoba Conservation completed an inspection of the site."

Repairs to the tailings and propane lines were under way over the weekend. Markham said some production could be affected as a result of the incident.
