Spirit Way unveils fundraising goal for Wolf Centre of Excellence at beerfest

Spirit Way’s continuing quest to develop a new tourism destination in Thompson came into sharper focus at Trappers’ Tavern Oct. 19.

Spirit Way’s continuing quest to develop a new tourism destination in Thompson came into sharper focus at Trappers’ Tavern Oct. 19.

The organization put on a steak dinner and beerfest, with beverages provided by Two Wolves Brewing, a Vancouver-based microbrewery that recently entered into a partnership with Spirit Way that will see it donate five cents from every can sold towards the development of a Wolf Centre of Excellence, which aims to promote best practices for human and wolf coexistence through education, ecotourism, science and research.

Spirit Way project co-ordinator Volker Beckmann also used this public event on Friday night to announce that Spirit Way has a new goal of raising $1 million within the next 1820 months to help get this project off the ground.

Through corporate sponsors like Two Wolves Brewing and Calm Air, Beckmann said Spirit Way has already raised roughly $200,000 for this purpose, and they are on the lookout for other partnerships with local community groups.

Beckmann said they are also aiming to develop a full governance model, business plan and social media marketing team to make sure that the wheels get turning on this project in the new year.
