To celebrate their new working relationship with Two Wolves Brewing, Spirit Way Inc. is organizing a get-together at Trapper’s Tavern on Oct. 19 to showcase the company’s craft beer.
In addition to featuring a steak dinner, this event, which begins at 6 p.m., will also serve as an official introduction to the Vancouver-based microbrewery, who joined forces with Spirit Way back in the summer to help boost the group’s local tourism projects.
“They just got their licence in July for Manitoba and they’ve agreed that they will donate five cents of every can of beer to us,” said Spirit Way project co-ordinator Volker Beckmann. “We felt that we needed some time after the summer was over to introduce their beer and launch the Wolf Centre of Excellence campaign, which they are supporting.”
Currently, Two Wolves beer is on sale at the local Liquor Mart and Beckmann said Spirit Way will use Friday’s kickoff event to try and convince local bars and hotels to stock the brewery’s Arctic Blonde Ale and Great Plains Brown Ale.
“We hope that everybody will taste it at least and realize that the more beer we drink in the north the more money comes back to Thompson, to the Boreal Discovery Centre and the Wolf Centre of Excellence project.”
Beckmann cautions that getting a steady supply of Two Wolves beer into Thompson might be touch and go in the beginning, due to the brewery’s size and the logistics of transporting their product all the way from British Columbia to Northern Manitoba.
“It might take a year to establish a quantity that everybody can expect,” said Beckmann. “That’s going to be a learning curve over the first few months, which I expect, and that’s why we’re trying to introduce this publicly on the 19th.”
