The Thompson RCMP detachment's traffic services is reminding snowmobilers to follow by-law and ensure their safety as well as the safety of others this snowmobiling season.

Const. Mike Eady, with the Thompson detachment says it's important to remind snowmobilers to use the designated trails and to refrain from riding on private property without receiving prior permission.

"It has become an issue in Thompson with off-road vehicle users riding on school properties in the city," Eady explains. "Section 32(1) of the Off-Road Vehicle Act carries a $220.50 fine in addition to a possible five-day seizure of your off-road vehicle for operating within city limits and not on designated trails."

Eady also reminded snowmobilers that the use of proper safety equipment is required and that intoxicated drinking and driving is against the law.
