A Dec. 12 collision in Cross Lake involving a snowmobile and a pedestrian killed one man and sent another to hospital.

One man is dead and another is in hospital with serious injuries after a snowmobile with two people on it hit a pedestrian in Cross Lake Dec. 12.

Cross Lake RCMP were called to the scene of the collision on the Main Road in the New Alberts Lake area of Pimicikamak Cree Nation around 5:20 a.m. Sunday.

The 25-year-old man who was driving the snowmobile was taken to the nursing station where he died of his injuries, while the 22-year-old male pedestrian was taken to the nursing station and later transported to hospital in Winnipeg for treatment.

A 21-year-old man who was the passenger on the snowmobile suffered minor injuries. Neither man on the snowmobile was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and police believe alcohol played a role in the incident.

Cross Lake RCMP, the Criminal Collision Investigation Team and a forensic collision reconstructionist are investigating.
