Heather Funk, Jackie Anderson, Mark Wilson, Jackie Vance, Louise Bruneau and Ester Remple of Thompson were chosen as members of Manitoba's youth choir due to tour the province in October.

Murray Carey was awarded with a Provincial Award of Excellence by Thompson MLA and Minister of Labour Ken MacMaster for his achievements in figure skating. Carey had recently been chosen, with his partner Lillian Hemming of Brandon, to compete with Canada's national figure skating team at international competitions in Japan and the U.S.S.R.

Students seeking summer jobs were having trouble as the Student Youth Employment Centre had 325 registrants but so far only 174 job vacancies.

Motor vehicle accidents causing injury were up 89 per cent through the year to date, having increased from 19 in the same period of 1989 to 36 in 1990, said Corporal Tom Forbes of the Thompson RCMP detachment.

Thompson hockey player John McCusker, who had played with the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, accepted a hockey scholarship from the University of Prince Edward Island.

A person in possession of a high-powered slingshot on Riverside Drive was reported to the RCMP.
