Striking Thompson General Hospital workers learned that negotiations on a new contract were due to restart the following day.

City council rejected the RCMP's request for land adjacent to the Royal Canadian Legion Building on Mystery Lake Road that the police force had hoped could be the site of a new headquarters for its Thompson sub-division.

20 Years Ago

John Hicks, one of three men facing animal cruelty charges for capturing three beluga whales for the Vancouver Aquarium near Churchill, was the subject of an arrest warrant after failing to show up for a court date. Hicks was apparently at his goose hunting camp and unable to make it to Churchill because of the weather.

The waterslide planned for the Norplex Pool was given the name "The Big Splash" by the committee behind its construction. The waterslide was scheduled to be installed during the pool's annual shutdown beginning Dec. 1.

10 Years Ago

The Citizens for Neighbourhoods committee met to discuss the possible closure of Deerwood School and ways to prevent it from happening. The school was tentatively scheduled to close in June 2002, with a final decision to be made by May 2001.

Air Miles could no longer be used for flights in to or out of Thompson due to the merger of Air Canada and Canadian Airlines. An Air Miles representative said it would likely be possible again with one or two months.
