The RCMP report presented to city council showed that, of 237 persons detained under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act in March, 183 were not residents of Thompson.

School board superintendent Brian Wilson noted that a recent health survey of Thompson students showed that 50 per cent, or 491 students, had been sexually active but that 30 per cent of them, or 147 students, had never used contraception.

The Thompson Chamber of Commerce held meetings for vendors interested in taking part in its planned summer farmers markets Aug. 25, Sept. 1 and Sept 8. Only goods made in Manitoba and sold by Manitoba residents would be allowed.

Mayor Bill Comaskey addressed the Thompson Chamber of Commerce on topics including labour unrest, a proposed urban reserve and the city budget as members of United Steelworkers Local 7991 and Local 8223 picketed outside The Hub, where the meeting took place.

The school board presented trustees a report on restructuring of school facilities, which could include changing one Thompson elementary school from a kindergarten-to-Grade 8 school to a kindergarten-to-Grade 4 school.
