RCMP investigate Wapanohk threat

Wapanohk Community School students went home for lunch on May 14 with letters from the principal informing them of a "general threat" on a bathroom wall, but classes continued as scheduled in the afternoon.

"This letter is to inform you that there was some information written on one of the bathroom walls that caused concern," read the letter from Wapanohk principal Bonnie Rempel. "The incident has been taken seriously and all measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the staff and students at Wapanohk Community School."

The letter also included a statement from Acting Cpl. Joe Jardine of the Thompson RCMP detachment.

"This is to advise of a general threat to the Wapanohk Community School, received in writing on a bathroom wall in the school on May 14, 2010," read the RCMP statement. "The threat is related to the date of May 14, 2010 in the afternoon."

The statement went on to say that the threat is being investigated but did not release any further details.

"The credibility and validity of the threat cannot be confirmed, and it is questionable in nature," said the statement from Jardine. "For this reason, in consultation with the Mystery Lake School Division and Wapanohk Community School, classes will resume normally on the afternoon of Friday, May 14, 2010. The Thompson RCMP have committed to have a presence at the Wapanohk Community School on May 14, 2010 as a safety precaution."
