Local volunteers behind Operation Red Nose took up residence at Lakeview Inn & Suites Nov. 17 to officially launch their 19th year of service in the Hub of the North.

This ceremony saw appearances from Thompson RCMP Insp. Kevin Lewis, city councillor Judy Kolada and honorary chairperson Brenda Davidson, who announced that volunteer drivers will be available to provide Thompsonites with a safe ride home starting Nov. 24–25.

Red Nose drivers will be available every subsequent Friday and Saturday night until Christmas but will not be on the road Dec. 29–30. The last night the service will be available is New Year’s Eve.

While this service is free, donations are always welcome. Last year, Thompson’s Operation Red Nose program raised $6,771.70, placing fourth in the province for fundraising behind Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie and The Pas.

The service itself will be available between the hours of 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. and can be accessed by dialling 204-778-8111.
