An elderly woman is in hospital and a 15-year-old girl is in custody after a Sept. 28 assault in Thompson.
A 67-year-old female was found in serious condition by RCMP after they were dispatched to an assault in a wooded area within the city of Thompson.
The victim was found with extensive injuries to the facial region. "She was transported to hospital by ambulance, and transported by air to Winnipeg for further treatment," said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Steve Mancini. Her condition has been listed as stable.
The girl was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. She has been remanded into custody, and will appear in Thompson court Sept. 30 to face that charge as well as one related to an outstanding arrest warrant.
The youth cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, while the name of the victim is not being released for reasons of privacy. Mancini says alcohol was a factor in the assault.
