The Thompson Days Inn and Suites came home from a major industry conference with a bit of hardware, as the hotel was named Property of the Year for facilities 75 rooms and under.

The award was given out at the 2010 Wyndham Hotel Group Global Conference in Las Vegas, held Sept. 20. Wyndham owns a number of major hotel chains, including Days Inn, Ramada, Howard Johnson, and Super 8 among many others.

Thompson Days Inn and Suites, which has 60 rooms, was competing against other Days Inn of similar size from across Canada - owner Mark Slotta estimates that around 40 hotels were up for this award.

"This outstanding achievement can be attributed to the efforts of our entire team," said Slotta. "We work as a team and make it our goal to ensure each guest's stay is a unique and memorable experience."

"It means a lot to me, more so for the team that makes it all happen," said Slotta, praising every department of his staff from management to guest services to housekeeping.

Slotta said that he knew his hotel had been nominated for the award, meaning he went to Las Vegas knowing there was a chance he could win, but it could also still be given to one of his competitors. Other Property of the Year winners included the Medicine Hat Days Inn for hotels between 76 and 125 rooms, and the Regina Days Inn for hotels with more than 125 rooms.

The Thompson Days Inn and Suites opened for business March 3, 2005, and is currently in the middle of an expansion. Slotta said that furniture will be going into the new wing in late November and early December, with plans to have the new rooms open by the beginning of 2011.
