Community band wants you, music-makers

The Thompson Community Band is looking for a few good - or at least enthusiastic - musicians as it gets set to begin its fourth season of music, friendship and fun, says promoter and third chair flute player Bruce Krentz.

The Thompson Community Band is looking for a few good - or at least enthusiastic - musicians as it gets set to begin its fourth season of music, friendship and fun, says promoter and third chair flute player Bruce Krentz.

"The band is a great mix of people from 18 to 'I can't even remember 18,'" says Krentz. "So if you are looking for something to keep you busy this winter, consider the Thompson Community Band. The phrase 'I haven't played this instrument in (insert a large number here) of years,' is one just about everyone used on their first day. Just like riding a bike, it is amazing how quick the chops come back."

The group meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 in the R.D. Parker Collegiate band room to play concert band arrangements of everything from the marches to classical and popular tunes.

"The Thompson Community Band grew out of a one-time alumni performance and now boasts 25 plus fiercely loyal musicians, who brave the cold, hurry back from work trips and make excuses to get out of evening meetings so they don't miss the powerful feeling of making music together," said Krentz. "If you played in high school or learned to play through lessons on YouTube and want to share your talents and have some laughs, consider Tuesday night with the Thompson Community Band. New members are always most welcome."
