One of Thompson's most popular lunch eateries has been sold effective Sept. 14.

Dale Shantz, long-time proprietor of Chicken Chef Family Restaurant in the Burntwood Plaza on Selkirk Avenue, has sold the business to Evalett and Roy Dobchuk, Thompson residents.

Evalett has experience in both the restaurant business and until June she worked for the neighbouring Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) branch in the Burntwood Plaza. Roy was a team member earlier this year in Vale Inco's mine rescue station competition and both have been involved with minor hockey, including with the Thompson Peewee AA King Miners.

Shantz had Chicken Chef listed for sale for an asking price of $119,900 earlier this year. Among the several hats he wears, he is also a real estate agent specializing in commercial property with RE/MAX Thompson.

Shantz will be staying on as an advisor for several months and will continue to help out behind the scenes for the next couple of years.
