The inaugural Artists, Crafters & Small Business Expo hosted in partnership by Community Futures North Central Development, Thompson Unlimited and Communities Economic Development Fund (CEDF) was a success. The event held on Saturday Dec. 5 at the Thompson Regional Community Centre was a community development initiative.

The expo was the place to be with local artists, crafters and small businesses showcasing what they have to offer. From gift baskets, wreaths, homemade goodies, spices, the finest artwork in northern Manitoba to a new snow plowing business and A Port in the Storm fundraiser, plus much more.

Mayor Tim Johnston, who is the manager of Community Futures North Central Development, said "events such as this not only promote local artists, crafters and small businesses, it is also a showcase of who we are and what Thompson and our surrounding communities have to offer.

"As an economic development organization promoting small business throughout the North Central Region, it is our hope to continue this venture on an annual basis. We are very pleased with the event and with the partnerships created."

Throughout the one-day event more than 250 Thompsonites toured the expo and took in the displays of what Thompson's artists and small businesses can offer right from their homes. Thanks to those who attended and participated in this event, supporting local artists, crafters and small businesses is very important to our business economy.

Overall, Community Futures North Central Development and our partners are very happy with how things transpired and look forward to the Artists, Crafters & Small Business Expo 2010. Community Futures North Central Development anticipates doubling the number of observers walking through the show next year and increasing the number of exhibitors.
