Twenty-two year-old Donald Timothy Massan of Thompson is facing charges of second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 49-year-old man on May 20.
Police say the incident occurred late in the afternoon that day outside the Thompson Inn. The 49-year-old man was assaulted and transported to the Thompson General Hospital in critical condition and was flown to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg where he later died of his injuries.
Massan has been remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in Thompson provincial court May 25. An autopsy has been scheduled at the Health Science Centre but details of when have yet to be released.
Police say no further charges are anticipated, but the investigation will continue. They say the victim and the accused did not know each other.
