On Saturday, Nov. 24, two victors finally emerged in the School District of Mystery Lake’s 2018 junior high volleyball tournament, which featured students in Grade 7−8.

After two days of gruelling competition at R.D. Parker Collegiate’s newly renovated gymnasiums, the boys’ and girls’ final was fought between the Westwood Vikings and La Voie du Nord Léopards and the Riverside Rams and Wabowden Eagles, respectively.

In the girls’ final, the Rams bested the Eagles in two straight sets, although the visiting team managed to make both games competitive with a final score of 25−18 and 25−21.

On the other side of the Trojan gym, the boys’ final went to three full sets, with La Voie du Nord picking up the first set by a 25−14 margin.

However, the Vikings managed to regroup and retake control, winning the next two sets, and the entire game, by a final score of 25−15 and 15−4.

This tournament resulted in a different yet familiar set of champions compared to last year, since the Riverside boys’ team claimed the top spot in 2017, whereas Westwood dominated the girls’ final during that same competition.
