Trojans soccer teams win five of six games in tune-up tournament before zone championships

R.D. Parker Collegiate’s boys’ and girls’ soccer teams won five of six games at their first tournament of the year in Swan River Sept. 20-21, with the boys going undefeated and the girls winning two games and losing a scoreless draw on penalty kicks.

Thomas King had the only regulation goal in a 2-1 penalty kick win for the boys over the hosts, Swan Valley. He also connected on a penalty kick along with Nathan Lounsbury, Keniel Williams, Sam Millar and Josh Smud. King had both goals for the Trojans in a 2-1 win over Dauphin and also scored in a 5-0 win over Major Pratt. Lounsbury had a pair of goals in that game with Williams and Nick Stewart contributing singles.

Erica Anderson had Thompson’s only regulation goal in a 2-1 win for the girls over Swan Valley on penalty kicks. She also scored on a penalty kick in the tiebreaker, as did Megan Szabo and Keashae Maters. Anderson, Masters, Nicole Cruda and Emma Tomchuk had two goals apiece in an 8-0 win over Major Pratt. The Trojan girls’ loss was a 1-0 penalty kick defeat at the hands of Swan Valley.

Both teams will be on home field for the Zone 11 soccer championships, which get underway Sept. 27 at 12:30 p.m. at Burntwood School.
