R.D. Parker Collegiate’s senior girls’ basketball team proved once again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the Manitoba high school hoops scene by claiming the bronze medal March 16 at the AAA provincial championships in Winnipeg.

The Trojans defeated the Lorette Scorpions 52-44 to claim the bronze medal after having earlier lost 58-47 in the semifinals to the Neelin Spartans from Brandon, who went on to beat the St. John’s Ravenscourt Eagles 55-37 to claim the provincial championship.

RDPC opened the tournament with a 69-62 win over the University of Winnipeg Collegiate Wesmen to advance to the semifinals.

Tressa McDonald was named a tournament all-star. Ashley Williams was the Trojans’ game star in the semifinal loss while Keashae Masters was the game star in the tournament-opening victory.

All of the teams the fifth-ranked Trojans faced were seeded above them. University of Winnipeg Collegiate was ranked fourth, the champion Spartans ranked first and the Scorpions ranked third.

This is the sixth top-three finish for the RDPC senior girls in the last seven years at AAA basketball provincials. They won back-to-back championships in 2015 and 2016 and then another in 2018. In 2013 and 2014 the school’s senior girls lost the championship games to end up as silver medallists.
