Trojans recognize athletic achievements

Damon Sabourin picked up five awards, including the senior male athlete of the year, at R.D. Parker Collegiate's Trojan athletics awards ceremony June 16.

Sabourin also received the coach's player of the year in boys' soccer, the most improved player in senior boys' volleyball, the dark horse award in senior boys' basketball and the kicker award in senior boys' track and field.

Simrit Deol was the senior female athlete of the year as well as the outstanding player in girls' soccer.

The junior athlete of the year awards went to Tara Miscavich, who also earned the tough call award in curling, and Tevin Wong.

Allison Correia, one of four nominees for the senior girls' athlete of the year trophy, picked up awards as the rookie of the year in girls' soccer and the most improved senior girls' basketball player.

Spirit of sport award recipient Dreolini was another multiple winner, also receiving the 110% award in girls soccer and senior badminton and leadership awards in junior girls volleyball and basketball, as well as a nomination as junior female athlete of the year.

The other spirit of sport winner, Avery Darechuk, was also recognized with leadership award in junior boys' basketball and junior boys' track and field.

Ryan Yeo took home awards for excellence in curling and as the senior badminton dark horse. His teammates Todd Boisvert, Matthew Hause and Robert Caldwell were also awarded for excellence in curling. Caldwell also won the dark horse award for junior boys' volleyball.

Payton Chuckrey won an outstanding player award in girls' soccer, while her teammate Rochelle Ethier was named most dedicated player. Darian Sabourin was the winner of the soccer squad's outstanding defence award.

Zach Sanders was the manager's player of the year in boys' soccer, while Garrett Franko received recognition as the most committed player.

Other junior girls' volleyball award-winners were most improved player Becky Hudson and rookie of the year Sydney Clemons.

Junior boys' volleyball awards went to Gage Heathcote for leadership and Quinton Hart for team spirit.

Karly Romaniuk picked up the digger award for senior girls' volleyball, while Jennifer Robson won the most dedicated award and Paula Thorne received the Steady Eddy award.

In senior boys' volleyball, Jesse Aarinola won the positive attitude award, Jordan Delaronde received the award for best hustle and Morgan Cordell was chosen as the most valuable player.

Janaye Tucker-Titanich received a leadership award in junior girls' basketball along with Danika Tait. Arnav Sud received a leadership award in junior boys' basketball. Ryan Taylor was the most improved player on the junior boys' developmental basketball team while Jesse Thompson received the squad's award for outstanding defence.

Nicole Tindall won the silent leader award for senior girls' basketball and Robin Booth picked up the tenacity award. The most valuable player on the senior boys' basketball team was Jordan Merasty, with Alex Ryan the most improved player and Jacky Colombe winning the most spirited award.

Robbie Bonthron was the rookie of the year on the junior badminton team while Brianne Hanson won the tenacity award and Brenden (Dexter) Baker the spunk and spirit award. The senior badminton dedication award went to Malachi Laubmann.

Dennis Hanlon picked up the left-hand man award for junior boys' track and field, while Like Colbourne won the team's track star award. Kyle Loewen was the senior boys' track and field most valuable runner, with Andrew Smith picking up the dedication award.

In junior girls' track and field, Ashleigh Frederick won the fab four award, Ryley Larway won the silent leader award and Rachel Fisher picked up the "Don't stop believing" award. Brooke Lychuk won the senior girls' track and field high flyer award, while Chelsea Lowe picked up the "big sister/MTS supporter" award.
