R.D. Parker Collegiate's junior varsity boys' basketball team had a tough start to the rural junior varsity provincials in Steinbach but finished strong to end up in fifth place after a consolation final win March 12.

The Trojans established a 44-15 lead by halftime in the consolation final, cruising to a 73-36 win over the Carberry Collegiate Cougars. Yousif Jabbar was the player of the game for RDPC.

The win was the second in a row for the Trojans, who knocked off the Minnedosa Chancellors 62-48 earlier on March 12, going up 34-24 at halftime and outscoring Minnedosa by four the rest of the way. Femi Dimeji was named the Trojans' game star in that affair.

RDPC drew a tough assignment to open the tournament, matched up with the Ross L. Gray Raiders, who would emerge as the champions after going undefeated through the tournament, never winning by fewer than 23 points. The Raiders established a 51-16 halftime lead over the Trojans on their way to an 82-27 victory that put an end to any RDPC championship hopes midway through the tournament's first day. Glen Pronteau was RDPC's player of the game in the opener.
