Trojan girls win first basketball tournament of the year

R.D. Parker Collegiate’s senior girls’ basketball team kicked off the 2018-19 season with a tournament win Dec. 14-15 in The Pas.

The Trojans girls defeated the Hapnot Collegiate Institute Kopper Kweens from Flin Flon 52-21 in the final of the Bill McDonald Memorial Basketball Tournament Dec. 15.

They knocked off a team from Nipawin, Saskatchewan 72-9 in the semifinals after defeating Hector Thiboutot Community School from Sandy Bay, Sask. 73-9 in their first game.

Ashley Williams was named the tournament MVP and Tressa McDonald a tournament all-star.

The Trojans boys lost 86-83 to Porcupine Plain in their tournament opener before beating a team from Creighton, Sask. 95-64 in their first B-side game and knocking off the Hapnot Kopper Kings 71-66 to win the consolation title.

Kyle Tomchuk of RDPC was named a tournament all-star.
